On September 24, 1997, Ministerial Resolution No. 1103 was issued establishing the Alexandria Higher Institute for Engineering and Technology to grant a bachelor's degree in engineering in three departments: the Department of Electronics and Communications Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Mechatronics Engineering. Then, according to Ministerial Resolution No. 1323 issued on October 24, 1999, the Department of Industrial Engineering was established.

The founder of the institute is Mr. Mohamed Abdel-Fattah Ragab - may God have mercy on him - the former president of the Ragab Group of Companies and founder of Pharos University in Alexandria, Al-Riyadh Language Schools, and Al-Fursan International Schools. In recognition of his life full of successes, Dublin University of Technology - one of Ireland's oldest and leading universities - awarded Professor Mohamed Ragab an honorary doctorate in 2015 for his great achievements in entrepreneurship, creativity, and community service.

The Board of Directors of the Institute, which includes a distinguished group of members from all fields, sets the necessary plans and strategies to provide an appropriate environment for the Institute to reach a high level of quality.
