Abstract
Recently, The ceramics industry in Egypt has witnessed rapid growth. This is mainly due to growth in the construction and housing sectors. However, due to globalization and competition in every aspect of business, the ceramic industries in Egypt are facing many difficulties to maintain their share of the global market, without overall operational excellence. Sanitary ware products are among the most important ceramic products in Egypt this industry use kilns as an essential operation in the production line. The rejected product in post-kiln operations cannot be returned to the process for recycling. In addition, most of the energy is consumed in the Kiln process causing great damage to the environment. Therefore, any efforts to improve the quality and productivity in the sanitaryware industries can lead to a significant contribution to the service of society and the nation.
Six Sigma is the most popular quality and process improvement methodology that strives to eliminate defects in processes. this methodology origin from the pioneering work and innovation that has been done at Motorola and adopted by many companies including GE, Ford, General Motors, Xerox, and others. The purpose of this project is to adopt Six Sigma to identify key quality problems in sanitary ware products and eliminate root causes. The results reveal that the implementation of the identity, measure, analyze, improve, and control (DMAIC) methodology can reduce the rejection rate significantly
